‘Get on Yer Bike’ for the Ramblers Challenge
Last September, a new challenge was created for Network members across North Yorkshire. The idea was to either walk or run 200 miles or cycle 400 miles over the course of four months. County and District Youth Commissioner, Tom Haigh rose to the challenge with great success.
Starting the challenge in September when the weather was mostly warm and dry was good fun! Routes included to Settle, Morecambe, Arnside, round the Dales and beyond! On a particularly long day, Tom headed up through Kingsdale, Hawes, Buttertubs, Kirkby Stephen, Sedbergh and back. He was seriously saddle sore as a result but the bacon butties and café stops half way were good motivators.
Soon the sunshine was replaced with grey skies, short days and wet, muddy roads. The rides got shorter, but, with the finish line in sight, his final ride was only 15 miles, but it was done! Well done, Tom! Cycling needs mental, as well as physical, toughness in the cold days of winter so you’ve set the bar high!
