District Info

Ingleborough District offers the challenge and adventure of Scouting for 8 to 18 year olds throughout North Craven.

North Yorkshire County Scout Council embraces the largest geographical area in England. Ingleborough District, which is one of the 15 Districts in the County, has two large Scout Groups operating in Ingleton and Settle. The District also has two Explorer Units which run activities for 14-18 year olds in both locations.  There are also several Young Leaders in a similar age group, who work with the Beaver, Cub and Scout sections.

Each Scout Group, which consists of one or more Sections, is run by an Executive Committee consisting of a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Section Representatives and others with specific responsibilities, who support the Leaders.
The District is administered by a District Team led by an Executive Committee and District Commissioner.  Members of Groups and District Executive Committees are also governed by the Charity Commission rules for trustees.  An Appointments Committee oversees and approves the appointment of all Leaders and Section Assistants.

The District organises a programme of events to give everyone the opportunity to meet members from other Groups, and to participate in larger and different activities. It depends totally on the support of adult volunteers for these events.

The Welfare of Young People
The Scout Association has a legal and moral duty to take care of its young people. Adults in Scouting have the responsibility to protect youngsters from harm and the Association has a clear policy to safeguard all its members. This is outlined in the ‘Young People First’ code of good practice, which is issued to all adults.  All adults in Scouting must go through a series of safeguarding checks to ensure they are safe to work with children and young people.

The Scout Association takes the safety of volunteers and young people very seriously. All activities are planned and carried out with safety in mind, risk assessments are completed, equipment is regularly checked, and any instruction which is given by qualified leaders is always of a high standard. All leaders have to be trained in first aid and safety, and only authorised personnel can lead adventurous activities such as caving, canoeing, climbing, etc.

All offers of help at Group or District level will be gratefully received. Contact us if you are interested in helping.
