Settle Scouts Turn into Brass Monkeys
2 December 2018

Over a chilly weekend in October, 21 Settle Scouts, Explorers and their leaders enjoyed camping at Thornthwaite Scout campsite, near Harrogate. All their food was cooked on open fires and activities included tracking, becoming invisible and wide games in the dark, as well as a score of challenges which the youngsters had to complete during camp. There was a lively campfire on the Saturday night during which the Explorers gave an animated rendition of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’! As it was such a cold weekend, several youth members ended up wearing almost all their clothes to keep warm, especially at night! Despite the harsh conditions, everyone enjoyed themselves. On their return, awards were presented, including a prize for the most excited Scout on arrival – a party popper; the most exposed Scout for wearing shorts all weekend, – a pair of large trousers; and the most layered Scout – an onion! Well done to the Settle Team – that’s what’s makes Scouting so exciting!
