NIESU CRO visit 2018IMG_4592

After a good summer’s break, North Ingleborough Explorers came back full of enthusiasm for getting out and exploring the remoter/steeper parts of the Dales and Lakes. Paying a visit to the Cave Rescue Organisation at Clapham seemed like a good idea with it fitting into their programme of hill skills. A tour of the CRO base included a thorough inspection of ‘CRO 2′, one of their three rescue ambulances, and using its radio, with mixed results. Some offered to try carrying half a hill stretcher, which turned out to be extremely heavy. The Explorers were also encouraged to ‘experience’ each of the 3 stretchers they have. Not one for the claustrophobic, especially the cave stretcher – being immobilized and lifted vertically off the ground looked terrifying!

The Unit is grateful to the CRO members who gave up their spare time to show the Explorers around – especially when they were called out at 2:30am the following morning, CRO’s 61st incident of the year.
