Settle Explorers impressed their leaders at their culture evening last month. They learned really interesting facts about Venice and Italian culture, South Korea and the truth behind K pop, Japan and the meaning of a nine-tailed fox, Somalia and its complicated history, Icelandic language and landscape and, lastly, all about Syria! All this washed down with a mug of tea, Italian nibbles and home baked Korean pastries, plus a discussion about what is really meant by ‘culture’.

Know What You’re Eating’, a cookery session with a difference, then followed, the idea being that each Explorer would bring an item of food which was then used to make a delicious pot of soup to share with the Unit. Each Explorer explained where the food had come from so everyone could think about how sustainable their homemade broth would be! Not content with using a stove in the Drill Hall, they cooked their gastronomic creation on an open fire on the flanks of Castleberg! Well done, South Ingleborough Explorers – what an interesting programme you have!
