Going for Growth
18 September 2017
Toy stall IMG_1968 Taster flyer This month marks a series of initiatives which are designed to recruit new members. Youngsters are being addressed in school assemblies in Austwick, Settle and Hellifield, and flyers are being distributed in Clapham, Long Preston and Giggleswick primary schools by Alan Bennett, a member of the Regional Growth and Development Team, which supports Groups and Sections across England.
The hope is that youngsters will be given a taste of the fun and adventure that Scouting can offer, and that adults will also discover that volunteering with the Scout Association is both an enjoyable and a rewarding way to get involved in the community. There’s awards and challenges for all ages with activities as diverse as climbing, bell boating, walking, orienteering, photography, crafts, cooking, bushcraft, pioneering, first aid, international travel, camping, science and technology, as well as sleepovers, visits and talks, all of which local youngsters and adult leaders have already taken part in this year!
An exciting taster event is also being held from 5.15-6.15pm on Thursday, 28th September at the Drill Hall on Castlebergh Lane in Settle. The activities are free but please confirm your place by contacting Alan Bennett on 07951 137451 or by e-mailing alan.bennett@scouts.org.uk
