Recently members of the 1st Castleberg Scout Group were only too pleased to be able to support The Rotary Club of Settle’s annual walking and running event. The longer routes along local footpaths and bridleways had checkpoints with light refreshments along the way is how Carole Ogilvie, Group Secretary, and Jane Nelson, executive member, were able to assist.

Cherry Flitcroft, Group Chairman, reported that it was extremely busy at the start in Victoria Hall where she was volunteering, along with executive member, Rachel Rabjohns. 170 participants of all age groups and abilities registered, including Settle executive member Jan Wulf and his son, Oscar, who came in 15th and 16th in the 10k event.

The event always supports good causes and this year the funds will be shared between Settle Scouts who are raising money to revamp their Drill Hall and a Settle based charity, Kids at School in Nepal, which is helping to rebuild a primary school after the earthquake in Nepal.

It’s so good to see Scout members not only providing adventure for young people but also supporting their community in this way.
